Students interested in building up the full body flexibility required to grab their foot in a dancer’s pose (arms reaching backwards), or a standing scorpion (arms reaching overhead).
This is an all levels workshop with progressions of drills to fit a variety of flexibility levels. So whether you’re someone who feels like being able to reach back and grab your foot is a bit of a stretch (pun intended), or already have a comfortable dancer’s pose and are looking to go even deeper, we’ll have versions of drills to challenge you at your level (and continue to challenge you as you progress!).
A thorough warmup for the back, shoulders, and hips
Active flexibility drills to strengthen and stretch all areas needed to work towards a standing foot grab, whether you prefer the arm-reaching-back Dancer’s Pose, or the more challenging arms-overhead scorpion-style grab!
An emphasis on shoulder engagement, including building rotator cuff strength, to keep shoulders safe during loaded poses
* This workshop was filmed with the intention of fitting a 60-minute practice, but students may choose to lengthen it to spend more time on playing with the standing poses at the end of the workshop
2 yoga blocks
Long strap (can be stretchy or stiff)
Wall space
Upon checkout, you will receive a PDF with a link to the workshop recording (Squarespace limits file upload sizes so I can’t actually upload the whole recording here). The recording is for your personal use only, not to be shared with others - thank you!
Flip Your Grip Workshop - for students who want to focus their training on being able to grab their back foot and “flip their grip” to an elbows-up position, this workshop has more tailored drills to that specific skill. Note: students are recommended to be comfortable holding a puppy pose and cobra pose to do this workshop (does not to be a very bendy puppy or cobra, just a version that feels pain-free!)
Needle Scale Workshop - for bendier students looking to work on even split-ier standing leg grabs, this 90-minute contortion intensive is for you. Note: students must have “close to flat” front splits and be able to comfortably hold a bridge with straight arms to do this workshop
